Representative Text

1 Art thou weak in faith, and doubting?
Doubt no more, nor be dismayed;
Jesus’ words are still assuring—
“It is I; be not afraid.”

2 Are foes watching to ensnare thee;
Art thou by the tempter led?
That same Voice to thee is calling—
“It is I; be not afraid.”

3 In thine hours of dark foreboding—
In distrust of earthly aid—
Hear the gracious proclamation;
“It is I; be not afraid.”

4 Dost thou fear to cross the river?
There is nought for thee to dread;
Jesus calls you!—listen to Him—
“It is I; be not afraid.”

5 He who knows our ev’ry weakness,
He to ev’ry one hath said
“Be not faithless but believing—
It is I; be not afraid.”
