Representative Text

1 Come, let our voices join
In one glad song of praise:
To God, the God of love,
Our grateful hearts we raise.
Glory, glory, glory, glory, glory;
God is love,
Glory, glory, glory, Hallelujah!
God is love.

2 Now we are taught to read
The Book of life divine,
Where our Redeemer's love
And brightest glories shine.
Glory, glory, glory, glory, glory;
God is love,
Glory, glory, glory, Hallelujah!
God is love.

3 Within these hallow'd walls
Our wand'ring feet are brought,
Where prayer and praise ascend,
And heavenly truths are taught.
Glory, glory, glory, glory, glory;
God is love,
Glory, glory, glory, Hallelujah!
God is love.

4 For blessings such as these,
Our gratitude receive:
Lord, here accept our hearts--
'Tis all that we can give.
Glory, glory, glory, glory, glory;
God is love,
Glory, glory, glory, Hallelujah!
God is love.

In 1806 it was included in Dobell's New Selection, in 1808, in R. Hill's Collection of Hymns for S. Schools, and others. It is generally known to tnodern hymn-books as, "Come, let our voice ascend."
