Representative Text

1 Come, my Redeemer, come,
And deign to dwell with me;
Come, and Thy right assume,
And bid Thy rivals flee.

Chorus:
Come, my Redeemer, quickly come,
And make my heart Thy lasting home;
Wash me in the blood of the Lamb,
And I shall be whiter than snow.
Whiter than snow,
Whiter than snow,
Wash me in the blood of the Lamb,
And I shall be whiter than snow.

2 Exert Thy mighty pow’r,
And banish all my sin;
In this auspicious hour,
bring all Thy graces in. [Chorus]

3 Rule Thou in ev’ry tho’t
And passion of my soul,
Till all my powers are bro’t
Beneath Thy full control. [Chorus]

As the founder of "The London Orphan Asylum," "The Asylum for Fatherless Children," “The Asylum for Idiots” "The Infant Orphan Asylum," and "The Hospital for Incurables," Dr. Reed is more fully known, and will be longer remembered than by his literary publications. His Hymn Book was the growth of years. The preparation began in 1817, when he published a Supplement… Go to person page >
