1. Dum klara nokto venis ĝi en malproksima jar',
Anĝeloj ŝvebis super ter' kun ora harpistar';
"Nun inter homoj Difavor'!" kantadis anĝelĥor',
Kaj sur la tero estu pac', al Dio estu glor'!"

2. Refoje venas tien ĉi la sankta naska hor',
Aŭdiĝas en la laca mond' ĉiela anĝelĥor',
Kaj super daŭra maltrankvil' sonadas en aer',
La kanto de la anĝelar' pri paco sur la ter'.

3. Sed pro malpaco kaj milit' suferas tuthomar',
La kanton homoj aŭdas ne kaj daŭras pekofar';
Ho viroj en batalo nun vin turnu de detru',
Ĉesigu bruon! Jen! la ĥor' neniam ĉesas plu.

4. Kaj vi sub ŝarĝo sur la voj', kurbitaj per labor',
Irantaj al la vivocel' per paŝoj de dolor';
Rigardu! Venas la era' de ĝojo por la kor',
Ho restu sur la teda voj' — aŭskultu al la ĥor'.

5. Estontaj tagoj frontas nin; profeta la parol'
Ke, esperata ora aĝ' kondukos al konsol',
Jen paco regos sur la ter' en gloro kaj honor'
Kaj homoj ĉie kantos kun la anĝelara ĥor'.

Edmund Hamilton Sears was born in Berkshire [County], Massachusetts, in 1810; graduated at Union College, Schenectady, in 1834, and at the Theological School of Harvard University, in 1837. He became pastor of the Unitarian Society in Wayland, Mass., in 1838; removed to Lancaster in 1840; but on account of ill health was obliged to retire from the active duties of the ministry in 1847; since then, residing in Wayland, he devoted himself to literature.
