The Temperance Banner

Representative Text

1 Fling out the temp'rance banner
Upon the glad free air,
Fling out its stainless beauty,
To float forever there,
Sad hearts will cease their sighing,
Dimmed eyes grow bright again,
Go forth with glad rejoicing,
To rescue ruined men.

Chorus:
Fling out the temp'rance banner
Upon the glad free air,
Fling out its stainless beauty,
To float forever there.

2 And God will help you onward,
O faithful hearts of love,
Faint not, thine hour of trial
Will but his kindness prove,
And though the heavy shadow,
Of death is on the land,
Fear not, work on in patience,
The morning is at hand. [Chorus]

3 The wine cap shall be shattered,
The red flame cease to burn,
And to the flag of Temp'rance,
The lost ones must return,
O weeping wives and children,
So worn with bitter pain,
Look up, our stainless banner,
Shall bring you peace again. [Chorus]
