Representative Text

1 Get back to the Bible, the Gospel of love,
Where Jesus the Savior draws near;
The Word of our Father draws Heaven above,
His promises comfort and cheer.

Refrain:
Go back to the Bible, the good old Bible,
The Word that indeed makes free;
Get back to the Bible, the good old Bible,
A light to your feet it will be.

2 Get back to the Bible, that wisdom imparts,
A treasure for age and for youth;
Its precepts unfailing bind close on your hearts,
Receive them in faith and in truth. [Refrain]

3 Get back to the Bible, our beacon of light,
Our guide over life’s troubled sea;
Our pillar of fire thro’ the gathering night,
That leads, blessèd Savior, to Thee. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
