Representative Text

1 Hark that cry of deep and earnest pleading,
Borne across the ocean wave,
Give, O give us light from Him you worship,
His who came to save;
‘Tis the cry of the heathen, far, far away;
They are asking in tears for the golden ray
That is beaming so bright and so joyful today
In our own dear sabbath home.

Refrain:
We can help them, Saviour dear,
We can send them words of cheer;
Give us now a willing heart,
In the work to bear a part.

2 Still that cry: O Christian, come and help us,
Lead us to the Living Spring;
Songs of praise that fill our hearts with gladness,
Teach us how to sing;
‘Tis the cry of the heathen, far, far away;
To the God whom we serve they would learn to pray;
They would turn from their idols, and Jesus obey,
If they knew a Saviour’s love. [Refrain]

3 Christian, wake, that cry is still resounding;
Give your labor and your store;
Send the truth to those benighted nations,
Truth from shore to shore;
Then the isles of the ocean, far, far away,
Shall rejoice in the light of that golden ray
That is beaming so bright and so joyful today
In our own dear sabbath home. [Refrain]
