1 I do not understand God’s love
For one so sinful, but I know,
O this I know and daily, hourly prove,—
It touched my heart and made it clean like snow.

Refrain:
For broader than the mind of man,
And deeper than the deepest sea,
Yea, higher than the heav’n above,
Is God’s unmeasured love for me.

2 It is too deep a mystery!
I wonder at it more and more;
But this I know, because of love for me,
My many sins this Friend of sinners bore. [Refrain]

3 O love so tender and so sweet,
Thy gift I cannot comprehend;
But this I know, from Heav’n’s dear mercy-seat
It saves my soul and keeps me to the end. [Refrain]

Rexford, Eben Eugene.M (Johnsburg, New York, July 16, 1848--October 16, 1916, Shiocton, Wisconsin). Horticulturalist and editor of a Wisconsin farm journal.
