Representative Text

1. I have a friend, oh, a wonderful friend,
He is all in all to me;
Patient and sweet, and so tender and kind,
So loving and good is He.
When I was lost in darkness and sin,
Without a hope in the world,
To Calvary’s mountain went Jesus for me,
To bring me safe home to the fold.

2. I have a friend, oh, a wonderful friend,
And He walks with me each day;
Guarding my steps lest perchance I should fall—
Be tempted to go astray.
Oh, it is sweet to thus know my Lord—
Under His care I abide;
There, nothing can harm me, I’m kept by His pow’r—
Each step of the way He’s my guide.

3. I have a friend, oh, a wonderful friend,
Without Him what would I do?
In time of sorrow, when tears dim the eye,
He then is so faithful and true;
Or when temptation comes like a flood—
Almost o’erwhelmed by the fight:
I look up to Jesus, His standard is raised,
And with Him I walk in the light.
