Representative Text

1 If angels sang our Savior’s birth,
On that most blessèd morn,
Then let us imitate their mirth,
Now He again is born.

Refrain:
Surrexit Christus hodie,
Surrexit pro nobis;
Surrexit Christus hodie,
Gloria, Jesu Domino!

2 Grieve not, vain man, who mortal art,
That thou to earth must fall;
It was His portion, ’twas His part
Of Him who made us all. [Refrain]

3 Himself He humbled to the grave,
Made flesh like us to show,
That we as certainly shall have,
A resurrection too. [Refrain]

4 Then with perpetual hymns let Christ,
Who from the dead was raised,
With Father and the Holy Ghost,
Eternally be praised. [Refrain]

In some hymnals, the editors noted that a hymn's author is unknown to them, and so this artificial "person" entry is used to reflect that fact. Obviously, the hymns attributed to "Author Unknown" "Unknown" or "Anonymous" could have been written by many people over a span of many centuries. Go to person page >
