Baptism of the Holy Spirit

Representative Text

1 Let cloven tongues of holy fire
Baptize each soul with pow’r;
Come, blessed Spirit, sanctify
With Jesus’ blood this hour.

Refrain 1-3:
Like a peaceful dove
From the courts above,
Let Thy sacred presence steal
O’er my trusting soul,
Taking full control,
As I here in meekness kneel.

2 Come, blessed Spirit, and restore
God’s image in my heart;
By faith now cleanse me, I implore,
This crowning grace impart. [Refrain]

3 Come, blessed Spirit, Comforter,
Dwell in my heart, Thy throne;
Make me o’er sin a conqueror,
Oh, seal me for Thine own. [Refrain]

4 Oh, let Thy glory, Lord, descend
Upon my waiting soul;
Preserve me spotless to the end,
And every whit made whole.

Refrain 4:
I believe just now,
As I humbly bow,
That the blood has been applied;
It is done, I know,
For Thy word is so—
I am wholly sanctified.
