The Lost Lamb

Representative Text

1 Like a little wand’ring lamb,
Lost upon the hills I am;
Like a shepherd Jesus stands,
Holding out His blessed hands.

2 “Come,” He says, “Come back to Me;
Little lamb, I died for thee;
I will take thee to My home,
Little lamb, I pray thee, come.”

3 “I would have thee lie at rest,
Little lamb, upon My breast;
Thou shalt be My sweet delight
All the day and all the night.”

4 “Tho’ thou hast a wayward will,
Little lamb, I love thee still;
Come to Me and be forgi’n,
I will bear thee safe to heav’n.”

Bevan, Emma Frances, née Shuttleworth, daughter of the Rev. Philip Nicholas Shuttleworth, Warden of New Coll., Oxford, afterwards Bishop of Chichester, was born at Oxford, Sept. 25, 1827, and was married to Mr. R. C. L. At about thirty years of age he began to exhort and preach in private and public gatherings. His influence became very great, such was his reputation for piety and his success in talking, preaching, and writing concerning spiritual religion. He wrote one hundred and eleven hymns, most of which appeared in his Spiritual Flower Garden (1731). He… Go to person page >
