Look Not on the Wine

Representative Text

1 Look not on the ruby wine,
In the goblet glowing;
Touch not, taste not, handle not,
Well the danger knowing.

Chorus:
Look not on the ruby wine,
Sparkling in its beauty;
Shun the tempter's cruel snare,
Bravely follow duty.

2 In the cup a serpent hides,
By and by he rages;
In the tempter's service hard,
Death will be the wages. [Chorus]

3 Is it Christ the Saviour's way,
Is it right, my brothers?
Is it safe for any one?
Is it safe for others? [Chorus]

4 Even Christ pleased not himself,
Christ, the meek and lowly;
Daily seek to be like him,
Loving, pure and holy. [Chorus]
