O Christ! With Each Returning Morn

Representative Text

1. O Christ, with each returning morn
Thine image to our hearts be borne;
And may we ever clearly see
Our dearest treasure, Lord, in thee!

2. All hallowed be our walk this day;
May meekness form our morning ray,
And faithful love our noontide light,
And hope our sunset, calm and bright.

3. May grace each idle thought control,
And sanctify each wayward soul;
May guile depart, and malice cease,
And all within be joy and peace.

Four years later, he republished this volume under the title of hymns of the Church, mostly primitive, collected, translated and arranged for public use, 1841. Other publications include a Life of William of Wykeham, 1842, and Horae s… Go to person page >

Ambrose was trained in legal studies and distinguished himself in a civic career, becoming a consul in Northern Italy. When the bishop of Milan, an Arian, died in 374, the people demanded that Ambrose, who was not ordained or even baptized, become the bishop.
