Rejoice in the Lord always, | Scripture References: "Rejoice in the Lord Always" is almost a direct quotation of Philippians 4:4 (see also Phil. 3:1). The apostle Paul's encouragement to rejoice always, regardless of our circumstances, is an exhortation we sing cheerfully to each other in this song, often in the form of a round. The textual adaptation and the original tune are anonymous, products of the oral tradition associated with Scripture songs. The same oral tradition has produced minor variants on the tune, just one of which is included in the Psalter Hymnal; some congregations may know different versions of the tune. The text has been published in many of the early booklets and leaflets of the Scripture-chorus movement and appears now in a number of hymnals. Liturgical Use: --Psalter Hymnal Handbook |
