Representative Text

1. Shines the blessèd sunlight,
Easter morning breaks;
Unto life and gladness
all the world awakes;
Now has come salvation,
ever full and free,
Christ our Lord has purchased
blessèd liberty.

Refrain
Praise Him, from the grave!
Praise Him, strong to save!
Songs of gladness raise,
Everlasting praise.

2. Carol forth His praises,
twine your garlands gay;
See, the tomb of darkness
gleams with Heaven’s ray;
Tell the sweetest message
known to mortal men,
Jesus, King and Savior,
lives and reigns again. [Refrain]

3. Glows the blessèd sunlight
in our hearts today,
Rolling clouds of sorrow
from our souls away;
Gleaming out with beauty
thro’ the skies afar,
Shines anew the risen Christ,
our Morning Star. [Refrain]

Lizzie De Armond was a prolific writer of children's hymns, recitations and exercises. When she was twelve years old her first poem was published in the Germantown, Pa. Telegraph, however, it was not until she was a widow with eight children to support that she started writing in earnest. She wrote articles, librettos, nature stories and other works, as well as hymns.
