Representative Text

1 Spouse of Christ, whose earthly conflict
Here below doth never cease
Lift thy voice and tell the triumphs
Of the blessed ones at peace

2 Joyful be this day of gladness,
Feast of all the Saints on high;
Let our songs, 'mid heav'ns rejoicing,
Sound in sweetest harmony

3 There, the ever Virgin mother,
Reunited with her Son,
Leads the praise of all the ransomed
Who that heav'nly realm have won.

4 There, the angels and archangels,
Circling round the throne on high
Hymn the Lord of all creation
In divinest minstrelsy.

5 John, the herald and forerunner
Heads the great prophetic throng.
While the Patriarchs in chorus
Join to swell the angels' song.

6 Near to Christ, the Twelve apostles,
Chosen as foundation stones,
Now behold the city's splendour,
Seated on celestial thrones.

7 There the martyrs, robed in crimson,
Sign of lifeblood freely spent,
Now enjoy the life eternal
In the Saviour's love content.

8 Virgins, to the Lamb devoted,
Following in steadfast love,
Bring the bridal garlands with them
To the marriage feast above

9 There, confessors are rewarded,
And each holy humble soul,
Who on earth left no memorial,
Now make up the saintly whole.

10 All the blest adore for ever
God's surpassing majesty.
Threefold anthems ever raising
To the all Holy Trinity.

11 In your heav'nly habitation,
That eternal home on high
Hear, ye saints our prayer and pleading
As to God we lift our cry.

12 By your heav'nly intercession
Help your fellow Christians here,
That in love of Christ our Saviour
We through grace may persevere.

13 So may God our Father grant us
Here to serve in holiness,
And at length by his good mercy
Share that heav'n which ye possess.
