Representative Text

1 "Take up thy cross and follow me,"
The blessed Master said;
His willing servants we would be,
And in his footprints tread.
For his enabling grace we pray,
That we may walk aright,
And follow Jesus, day by day,
As he shall give us light.

Chorus:
We'll bear the cross, from day to day,
And follow Christ along the way;
We'll bear the cross, nor lay it down,
Till he shall give the starry crown.

2 The crosses, hallowed by his love,
Shall be as helpful wings,
To life the trustful heart above
To higher better things.
The paths in which his Spirit leads
Are pleasantness and peace;
His strength, availing for our needs,
Till earthly troubles cease. [Chorus]

3 Then let us seek to do his will,
Whatever that may be,
Assured that he is with us still,
With mercy, full and free.
The cross is light he bids us bear,
For he will share the load,
And when we cast on him our care,
Joy blooms along the road. [Chorus]
