Representative Text

1 Tarry with me, my Saviour,
When the morn breaks to view,
When the duties before me as a burden appear;
For each duty is pleasure, and each task is a joy,
And burdens grow lighter, if thou art but near.

Refrain:
Tarry with me, my Saviour,
Tarry with me I pray,
I need thee, greatly need thee each stop of the way.
Tarry with me in sunshine
Tarry with me in shade
For when thou art near me I’ll not be afraid.

2 Tarry with me, my Saviour,
And abide as the morn
Presses on into noonday with my labors not done;
Tarry with me, when weary, and the burden grows light,
For when thou art with me, tow labor as one. [Refrain]

3 Tarry with me, my Saviour,
When the lights grow more dim
And I grope in the darkness tho’ the sun still shines bright;
When these eyes close forever on the scenes I have loved
They’ll open, beholding thy face with delight [Refrain]

4 Tarry with me, my Saviour,
When the threshold I cross
Of that heavenly mansion, there forever to stay
They may question my title, but with thee at my side
I’ll cry: “Here’s my Saviour! Ask him if I may!” [Refrain]
