Representative Text

1 Tell it o’er mountain, and tell it o’er plain,
Christ is the Light of the world!
Millions are waiting to catch the refrain—
Christ is the Light of the world!

Chorus:
The Light of the world, the Light of the world,
Christ is the Light, the Light of the world;
Lift high ev’ery voice, oh, sing and rejoice,
For Christ is the Light of the world.

2 Tell the poor sinner in darkness and woe,
Christ is the Light of the world!
Shout the glad tidings wherever you go—
Christ is the Light of the world! [Chorus]

3 Idols of gold, wood and silver give way,
Christ is the Light of the world!
Darkness is changed into beautiful day—
Christ is the Light of the world! [Chorus]

4 Then let us follow in patience and love—
Christ is the Light of the world!
That we may prove, in the mansions above,
Christ is the Light of the world! [Chorus]

Outside of the usual time spent in the public schools, Mr. Oatman received his education at Herbert's Academy, Princetown, N. J., and the New Jersey Collegiate Institute, Bordentown, N. J. At the age of nineteen he joined the M.E. Church, and a few years later he was granted a license to preach the Gospel, and still later he was regularly ordained by Bishop Merrill. However, Mr. Oatman only serves as a local preacher. For many years he was engaged with his father in the mercantile business at Lumberton… Go to person page >
