Cox, Luther J. (December 27, 1791--July 26, 1870). He was born on a farm in Queen Anne's County, Maryland, and died in Hampden, Maryland, his home for the last twelve years of his life. The "Bard of the American Methodist Reformation," a layman and local preacher, one of the founders of the Methodist Protestant Church, he engaged in mercantile pursuits throughout all of his active life.
