Waiting for the Savior

Representative Text

1 We are waiting for the Savior,
As the watcher waits the light,
When the sun in all his glory
Drives away the shades of night;
We are waiting, only waiting,
For the Master to appear,
Only waiting for His presence
Full of comfort and of cheer.

Chorus:
We are waiting,
We are watching,
We are ready for the Master to appear,
We are waiting,
We are watching,
For the coming of our Lord is drawing near.

2 We are waiting for the Savior,
For our hearts are sick of sin,
And there's no one here to heal us
Of the pain we feel within;
There is no one but the Savior,
Who can cleanse the guilty soul,
Take away the troubled conscience,
Make the broken spirit whole. [Chorus]

3 We are waiting for the Savior,
In our sorrow and our grief,
Waiting for the great Consoler,
Who will bring a sweet relief;
Who will give for all our mourning,
Oil of His abounding joy;
For our heaviness of spirit,
Songs of praise the saints employ. [Chorus]

4 We are waiting for the Savior,
For the night comes on apace;
Longer grow the somber shadows
'Round our earthly dwelling-place,
Soon we'll take the happy journey,
On the bright and shining sea:
And how gladly, blessed Savior,
Since we wait to sail with Thee. [Chorus]
