23. The City of Rest

1 O sinner, come listen, I’ll tell unto you,
The news o’ salvation, sae guid, and sae true;
My Faither is King in the realms o’ the blest,
An’ for me there’s a mansion in the city o’ rest.

Refrain:
O city, sae fair, sweet hame over there,
Which Jesus, oor Saviour, has gane to prepare.
When life’s golden sun shall descend in the West,
May we find that blest city, that city o’ rest.

2 My Faither, the King, in compassion an’ love,
Sent Jesus, His Son, frae His hame up above,
Tae dee for a’ sinner, on Calvary’s tree,
An’ tae offer salvation tae you an’ tae me. [Refrain]

3 This paln o’ salvation—sae lofty, sae grand—
Is mair than the human can e’er understand:
But what does it maitter tae you or tae me
Since faith in His promise, alane maks us free. [Refrain]

4 Then won’t you accept Him, O sinner, my friend,
This wonderfu’ Saviour, whase luve has nae end?
An’ if you’ll but trust Him, an’ gie Him your best,
You shall dwell in His mansions in the city o’ rest. [Refrain]
