43. The Woman of Samaria

1 In Syria’s vale near Joseph’s tomb,
Lay Jacob’s well so long renowned;
The Saviour weary and alone,
Sat down upon that well of stone.
A woman came from o’er the hill,
Her empty pitcher there to fill;
But Christ revealed the living stream,
And told her all she e’er had been.

Refrain:
Come drink at the fount, the life-giving stream,
The gift of God’s grace, who reigneth supreme;
The Saviour is waiting and calling for thee,
Come now to the fountain, so full and so free.

2 The woman of Samaria flew
To tell the news so good and true;
Come, hear the things He has to tell,
While sitting on old Jacob’s well.
This must be Christ who by God’s word
Is sent to save a ruined world;
He offers life and peace to all
Who trust His grace, obey His call. [Refrain]

3 Come, drink today of God’s free grace,
Who sent His Son to take our place;
To bind the broken contrite heart,
And save all who from sin depart.
He came to die on Calv’ry’s cross,
To cleanse us from our sin and dross;
The gift of His eternal love,
That we may live with Him above. [Refrain]
