58. Gathering Jewels

1 We are gathering jewels for the crown of our Lord,
And no other employment such delights could afford;
At our feet they are lying in the dust and the grime,
If thro’ grace we may find them in his crown they shall shine.

Refrain:
O then let us be busy in his work every day,
Let not one precious moment unimproved pass away;
For the Master is certain all our toil to repay,
Gath’ring gems for the crown of our Lord.

2 We are gathering jewels of great value untold,
Far more precious than rubies, more than silver or gold;
They are blood-bought and priceless, and how fearful the cost,
If for want of our service these bright jewels be lost. [Refrain]

3 For I love him so dearly, this Redeemer of mine,
All my fondest affections now around him entwine,
And my heart will o’erflow if at the last I may see
In his crown some bright jewels which are gathered by me. [Refrain]
