WELLS (Bortnianski)?

You are here

When I search for tune name WELLS (which I have listed for one instance of the text "A broken heart, my God, my King") the search result that looks best turns out to be linked to ST. PETERSBURG, and I can't find any mention of WELLS there. Any clues why this connection is made? Is WELLS an alternate tune name (like calling EASTER HYMN "WORGAN" or "ANGLIA", or NEW BRITAIN "McINTOSH")? Or what?

The two tunes (Wells and St. Petersburg) are cataloged in CCEH separately: 396 and 728, respectively, although it's obvious that they differ only in presentation. "Wells" is the name for the arrangement in the Southern "Baptist Hymnal 1991".

I tried to avoid separate entries like that: apparently someone else caught it, fortunately.

It's a good idea to avoid separate entries in such cases; a redirect is a good idea. However, I think there should be some mention of other names a tune has been published under on the tune authority page. ARISE/RESTORATION, EBENEZER/TÔN-Y-BOTEL, O WALY WALY/GIFT OF LOVE, etc... BTW now that their identity has been pointed out to me I'll be changing the WELLS listing in my index to indicate this. Thanks!
