Looking for hymn/poem by T.O. Chisholm

You are here

I am looking for a poem by T.O. Chisholm, author of Great Is Thy faithfulness.  I believe the title is My Soul Is All I Have.  i do not know if it was ever set to music.  The first stanza (as i remember it)  is:

I am resolved that I'll not be

The dupe of things I have and see;

These figured totals lie to me,

My soul is all I have.

There were several other stanzas and I may not have this one exactly correct.  I've done some internet searches but to no avail.  Any assistance would be greatly apprecitaed!

Thanks in advance,

RKM

Three verses are quoted in this sermon transcript:  https://wacriswell.com/sermons/1966/listening-to-jesus-2/

Thank you very much!

My Soul Is All I Have

I am resolved I will not be
The dupe of things I touch and see;
These figured totals lie to me:—
My soul is all I have.

Illusive cheats are good and gold;
These chattels that I have and hold,
Are prey of moth, and rust, and mold:—
My soul is all I have.

A builder, I, but not with stone;
The self I am, nor flesh nor bone;
My house will dure when stars are gone:—
My soul is all I have.

For me to traffic with my soul
Would make me brother to the mole;
The whole world's wealth were but a dole;
My soul is all I have.

I must have care I do not lean
T'ward what is sordid, false or mean,—
I must not touch the thing unclean:—
My soul is all I have.

O Keeper of the souls of men,
Keep mine for me, from hurt or stain,
For, should it slip my hand—what then?
My soul is all I have!

Thomas O. Chisholm, Great Is Thy Faithfulness (Vineland, NJ: Glendale Press, 1956), p. 93.

Thank you very much!

This poem has been set to music but not published. An 11-year-old fit it to the tune “Solicitude” meter 8.8.8.6 with refrain and campaigned for revival at his father's small country store. Many copies of this have been passed out to customers. You can find the tune in several different hymnals, such as “HYMNS OF THE CHURCH” and “THE CHURCH HYMNAL”. Hope this helps.
