Marian Wendell Hubbard was sent to be educated in Pawtuckett, Rhode Island at the age of nine, after the death of her mother. At the age of eighteen she worked in Philadelphia as a proof reader. At this time she also wrote articles and poetry for publication. She wrote hymns for an Elgin, Illinois publisher.
