1839 - 1908 Person Name: C. R. Hurditch Author of "God is Love" in Men's Gospel Quartets Hurditch, Charles Russell, was born in Exeter, Dec. 20, 1839. In 1854 he underwent a spiritual change which led him subsequently to undertake religious work in some of the villages of Devonshire, and afterwards to succeed the late Mr. Henry Hull as the Secretary of the Young Men's Christian Association, Stafford Street, London. In 1865 he published The London Hymn Book for Prayer Meetings and Special Services. This was revised in 1880. In 1873 he also publishedThe Enlarged London Hymn Book, a Collection of Hymns for Public, Social, and Private Use. Of the smaller work more than half a million copies have been sold; and of the enlarged book the 86th thousand was issued in 1881. To the first (1865) he contributed Nos. 10 and 11 given below: the rest were published in the second book (1873). 1. Arise, ye saints, arise and sing. God is Light. 2. Arm of the Lord, awake! God is love; "No. 2,"about 1859;" No. 11, when he received the invitation to proceed to London, as noted above; No. 15, for the baptism of his youngest son; and No. 25 for a Conference which was held in London. Daniel Webster Crist

1857 - 1929 Person Name: D. W. Crist Composer of "[Come let us all unite to sing]" in The Evangelists' Songs of Praise No. 2 Born: November 28, 1857, New Chambersburg, Ohio. Died: March 24, 1929, Alliance, Ohio. Buried: Moultrie Chapel Cemetery, Moultrie, Ohio. Son of Robert Crist and Mary Ruff Crist, Daniel graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1882, and taught school in Columbiana and Stark County, Ohio, for 14 years. He became superintendent of the Osnaburg grade school in 1880, and for three years was superintendent at New Franklin. In 1901, he was elected to the Ohio state legislature, and became a state senator in 1905. Crist was composing as early as 1888, and at least through 1910, when he scored the FLOWER GIRL WALTZ. He worked for 30 years as a successful music publisher, starting in Moultrie, Ohio, where he also taught, farmed, and in New Alexander, served as a church music director and Sunday school superintendent. In 1915, he moved to Alliance, Ohio (where he became president of the Peoples Bank of Alliance). His works include: The Evergreen Waltz Joy and Praise for Sunday Schools, with R. A.
