1833 - 1913 Person Name: Emily Miller 1833-1913 Composer of "AFFECTION" in Praise! psalms hymns and songs for Christian worship Miller, Emily, née Huntingdon, daughter of the Rev. Thomas Huntington, D.D., was born at Brooklyn, Connecticut, Oct. 22, 1833: and was subsequently married to Professor Miller. Mrs. Miller is joint editor of The Little Corporal, published at Chicago, in which several of her poetical pieces appeared. Of her hymns the most widely known are:— 1. Enter Thy temple, glorious King. Opening of a Place of Worship. This was written for the opening of the Methodist Episcopal Church, at Akron, Ohio, 1861; and is in several collections, including the Methodist Episcopal Hymnal, 1878. 2. I love to hear the story. Early Piety. Written for and published in The Little Corporal, 1867. This is in extensive use in Great Britain and America. It was included in Hymns Ancient & Modern, in 1875. 3. Beyond the dark river of death. Heaven. 4. Blessed are the children. Early Piety. 5. Father, while the shadows fall. Evening. 6. Hark, the chorus swelling. Christmas. 7. I love the name of Jesus. Holy Name Jesus. 8. Jesus bids us shine. Early Piety. 9. Stay, trembling soul, and do not fear. Holy Communion. 10. Work and never weary, though thy strength be small. Perseverance. Of these hymns, No. 7 is in the 1878 Additional Hymns to the Leeds Sunday School Hymn Book; No. 8, is in Barrett's Book of Praise for Children, 1881; No. 9, in Common Praise, 1879; and Nos. 4, 5, 6, and 10, in E. 1811 - 1883 Author of "My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine" in The Methodist Hymn-Book with Tunes Born in West Bromwich, England; worked as an iron smelter; was married with three children; emigrated to Sydney, Australia, in 1881 and died there.

1873 - 1944 Person Name: Samuel W. Beazley, 1873- Arranger of "ANDANTINO" in Glorious Theme Samuel W. Beazley was born in Sparta, Virginia in 1873. He was a music scholar and taught music at Shenandoah College for five years. He composed over 4,000 gospel songs during his lifetime. Samuel W. 1821 - 1875 Person Name: J.E. Gould Composer of "[When bright all around me life's jewels are sparkling]" in Songs of Gladness for the Sabbath School John Edgar Gould USA 1821-1875. Born in Bangor, ME, he became a musician. He managed music stores in New York City and Philadelphia, PA., the latter with composer partner, William Fischer. He married Josephine Louisa Barrows, and they had seven children: Blanche, Marie, Ida, John, Josephine, Josephine, and Augusta. He compiled eight religious songbooks from 1846 thru 1869. He died while traveling in Algiers, Africa, and was buried in Philadelphia, PA. John Perry

Thomas Koschat

1845 - 1914 Composer of "[My Jesus, I love Thee]" in His Worthy Praise Thomas Koschat Austria 1845-1914. Born at Viktring, Austria, he studied chemistry in Vienna (1865-67). A Roman Catholic, in 1866 he joined the Vienna State Opera and sang bass in the Hofoper (court opera) Choir, and eventually became choir director. In 1874 he joined the choir at St. Stephen’s Cathedral. In 1877 he joined the Hofmusikkapelle (choir) and served as a soloist there. From 1877-1906 he founded and sang with the Koschat Quintet, touring Europe and America extensively. He was well-known for his ‘Karntnerlider’ Carinthian folk songs. Emperor Wilhelm awarded him the ‘Adler Order of the Red Eagle’. He wrote several books and also published a book of poems in the Carinthian dialect. He died in Vienna, Austria. He was a musician, author, composer, librettist, adapter, and contributor. John Perry
