Ludvig Mathias Lindeman

1812 - 1887 Person Name: L. M. Lindeman (1812-87.) Composer of "WAIT ON THE LORD" in Christian Hymns Ludvig M. Lindeman (b. 1812; d. 1887) was a Norwegian composer and organist. Born in Trondheim, he studied theology in Oslo where he remained the rest of his life. In 1839 he succeeded his brother as the organist and cantor of Oslo Cathedral, a position he held for 48 years up until his death. Lindeman was appointed Knight of the Royal Norwegian Order of St. Olav, and was invited to both help christen the new organ in Royal Albert Hall in London, as well as compose for the coronation of King Oscar II and Queen Sophie of Sweden. In 1883, he and his son started the Organist School in Oslo. Lindeman is perhaps best known for his arrangements of Norwegiam folk tales; over the course of his life he collected over 3000 folk melodies and tunes. Laura de Jong

Daniel Webster Crist

1857 - 1929 Person Name: D. W. Christ Arranger of "Beautiful Zion, Built Above" in The Evangelists' Songs of Praise No. 2 Born: November 28, 1857, New Chambersburg, Ohio. Died: March 24, 1929, Alliance, Ohio. Buried: Moultrie Chapel Cemetery, Moultrie, Ohio. Son of Robert Crist and Mary Ruff Crist, Daniel graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1882, and taught school in Columbiana and Stark County, Ohio, for 14 years. He became superintendent of the Osnaburg grade school in 1880, and for three years was superintendent at New Franklin. In 1901, he was elected to the Ohio state legislature, and became a state senator in 1905. Crist was composing as early as 1888, and at least through 1910, when he scored the FLOWER GIRL WALTZ. He worked for 30 years as a successful music publisher, starting in Moultrie, Ohio, where he also taught, farmed, and in New Alexander, served as a church music director and Sunday school superintendent. In 1915, he moved to Alliance, Ohio (where he became president of the Peoples Bank of Alliance). His works include: The Evergreen Waltz Joy and Praise for Sunday Schools, with R. A. He attended Northern Liberty and James Bird's Schools. He has given special study to the subjects of music, French, German and Spanish, and received the D.D. degree from Paul Quinncollege. He was converted in 1863 and joined the A. M.E. Chruch the same year. He was licensed to preach and was ordained deacon in 1870 and elder in 1871 at Columbus, Ga.
