We sing the praise of him who died

Author: Thomas Kelly, 1769-1855 Hymnal: Together in Song #347 (1999) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 We sing the praise of him who died, of him who died upon the cross; the sinners' hope though all deride: for this we count the world but loss. 2 Inscribed upon the cross we see in shining letters, 'God is love'; he bears our sins upon the tree; he brings us mercy from above. 3 The cross - it takes our guilt away, it holds the fainting spirit up, it cheers with hope the gloomy day and sweetens every bitter cup: 4 it makes the coward spirit brave and nerves the feeble arm for fight; it takes all terror from the grave and gilds the bed of death with light: 5 the balm of life, the cure of woe, the measure and the pledge of love, the sinner's refuge here below, the angels' theme in heaven above. Topics: All Saints and All Souls; Confession of Faith; Confidence; Consolation; Courage; Evil; Faithfulness of God; Forgiveness; Funerals; God's Love to Us; Good Friday; Hope; Jesus Christ Passion and Cross; Martyrs; Protection; Providence; Resurrection; Salvation; Trust in God Scripture: 1 Corinthians 2:1-10 Languages: English Tune Title: BOW BRICKHILL

O Christ, the Healer, we have come

Author: Fred Pratt Green (1903-2000) Hymnal: Ancient and Modern #518 (2013) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Lyrics: 1 O Christ, the Healer, we have come to pray for health, to plead for friends. How can we fail to be restored, when reached by love that never ends? 2 From every ailment flesh endures our bodies clamour to be freed; yet in our hearts we would confess that wholeness is our deepest need. 3 How strong, O Lord, are our desires, how weak our knowledge of ourselves! Release in us those healing truths unconscious pride resists or shelves. 4 In conflicts that destroy our health we diagnose the world's disease; our common life declares our ills: is there no cure, O Christ, for these? 5 Grant that we all, made one in faith, in your community may find the wholeness that, enriching us, shall reach the whole of humankind. Topics: Community; Family and Friends; Healing; Jesus Life and Ministry; Prayer; Suffering; Wholeness and Healing Scripture: Mark 1:21-34 Languages: English Tune Title: BOW BRICKHILL
