He that confides in his Creator

Appears in 10 hymnals Lyrics: I. He that confides in his Creator, Depending on him all his Days, Shall be preserv'd in Fire and Waer, And sav'd in Grief a Thousand Ways. He that makes God his Stand and Stay, Builds not on Sand that glides away. II. What gain'st thou by thy Cark and Caring? What is it for thou pin'st away? Thy Rest and Health thou art impairing, By Sighs and Groans from Day to Day. Thou art but adding Grief to Grief, Instead of getting sure Relief. III. Wou'd we but be a little quiet, And rest in God's good Providence, Who thus prescribes us wholesome Diet By Methods cross to Flesh and Sense; We might obtain. For surely he Knows best what's good for thee and me. IV. He knows the Hours of Joy and Gladness, As well as proper Time and Place; Are we but faithful in our Sadness, Seek not our selves, but seek his Praise: He'll come before we are aware, And dissipate our greatest Care. V. Don't hearken to thy giddy Reason, As if God had forsaken thee, And think him happy who, this Season, Is glitt'ring in Prosperity. To Morrow, Spite of all his Brags, May see Thee rich, and Him in Rags. VI. God can, this Hour, with ev'ry Dainty The poor Man's Table nobly spread; And strip the Rich of all his Plenty, And send him out to beg his Bread. He, when he pleases, turns the Scale. By Him alone, we rise or fall. VII. Do Thou, with Faith, observe thy Station; Keep God's Commands, and sing his Praise, Rely on him for Preservation, On whom the whole Creation stays. The Man that's truly wise and just Makes God and God alone his Trust. Repeat: The Man that's truly wise and just Makes God and God alone his Trust. By Sin Weighed Down, And Sorely Stricken

Author: H. Brueckner; Chr. Tietze Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8 Appears in 3 hymnals First Line: By sin weighed down and sorely stricken Lyrics: 1 By sin weighed down and sorely stricken, I stand before God's judgment throne. O God, do Thou my spirit quicken, For Thou canst help, and Thou alone. Have mercy on my soul, I pray, And wash Thou all my guilt away. 2 O Father, Thou of mercies tender, Thine humble child doth cry to Thee; Wilt Thou to me sweet comfort render, That I again may joyful be? Have mercy on my soul, I pray, And wash Thou all my guilt away. 3 My troubled soul, its sins bewailing, Can never for its guilt atone; But let Thy mercy be unfailing, That I Thy healing grace may own. Have mercy of my soul, I pray, And wash Thou all my guilt away. 4 My soul Thy pardon strongly craveth; O speak the Word it fain would hear: I lend thee grace that truly saveth, I pardon thee, I stay thy fear. Have mercy on my soul, I pray, And wash Thou all my guilt away. 5 I do not doubt my prayer is granted, The sense of comfort doth increase; I have the grace for which I panted, And so to raise this cry I cease: Have mercy on my soul, I pray, And wash Thou all my guilt away. Though Famed in Israel's Royal History

Author: Carl P. Daw, Jr., b. 1944 Meter: 9.8.9.8.8.8.8 Appears in 1 hymnal First Line: Though famed in Israel's royal hist'ry Lyrics: 1 Though famed in Israel's royal hist'ry, Bethlehem would that past excel When God revealed a greater myst'ry, The Word made flesh, Emmanuel: Through Mary born from David's line, A Savior human and divine. 2 Who would expect a humble manger To cradle such a holy birth! How could flesh clothe the stars' arranger Or sheathe the hands that formed the earth? God's ways confound the worldly-wise, Disarm the sure with bright surprise. 3 All we recall of gain or glory Can scarce predict what still may be; God is the Author of our story, Whose will is sov'reign, boundless, free: Yet living in this time and place We can be vessels of God's grace. 4 Kindle, O God, your gifts within us, Stir up our faith, renew our nerve. When tempting powers seek to win us, Help us remember whom we serve: Transform our lies and build in them A new and willing Bethlehem. Who knew no sin and no deceiving

Author: Rev. Emanuel Cronenwett, D. D.; Rev. George Cronenwett Appears in 3 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Who knew no sin and no deceiving, Has borne my sin and my distress; And I by grace in Him believing, Now deck me with His righteousness. As He is sinner to my good, So I am holy through His blood. 2 Nay not in me, self-righteous were it, On God's grace rests my holiness; He looks on Christ's atoning merit, And counts this as my righteousness: This I believe, and hence my claim, That I am holy in His Name. 3 In Christ, by faith then, I am holy, In self though 'tis not yet the case; But I will likewise now so wholly Seek e'er in life to walk by grace, That soul and body may remain All blameless till Christ come again. 4 I will devote my every member To serve in righteousness God's will, Then when I falter, e'er remember That I may trust God's mercy still; And pray that God would guide through strife, That I may lead a holy life. 5 Thus will I walk, O God, before Thee, That my light too may shine alway And that I by my life adore Thee, Till I at length on that great day In life and self shall holy be, And wholly perfect, Lord, with Thee.
