The World Is Full of Stories

Author: Alan Gaunt, 1935- Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: 1 Peter 3:15 Lyrics: 1 The world is full of stories, of stories that have passed to us along the ages; great stories that still last, to tell of human feelings drawn deep from heart and mind, more true than fact: their meaning the surest we can find. 2 The world is full of stories, new stories people tell, and young and old come under the storyteller's spell which stirs imagination and opens wide our eyes to duty and conviction, to wonder and surprise. 3 The world is full of stories that capture and enthral; but joyful faith discovers that one transcends them all: God's love as told in Jesus, who shared our life on earth, and human recreation beginning at his birth. 4 It tells us of the anguish God's love was bound to bear, to conquer death and evil and fathom our despair. As we repeat the story, hope comes to life and thrives, to make the love of Jesus the story of our lives. Used With Tune: MERLE'S TUNE

Truly, He Comes to Us

Author: Peter Abelard (1079-1142); Alan Gaunt (1935-) Meter: 11.11.11.11 Appears in 1 hymnal Scripture: 1 Peter 3:13-22 First Line: Truly, he comes to us: darkness is ended Lyrics: 1 Truly, he comes to us: darkness is ended; now night is over, his light is ascended: ultimate sunrise, that floods all creation, bringing his secret from death's desolation. 2 Night has made way for the great proclamation, morning has broken, with songs of elation; Christ comes in light from the depths of his prison, death is abandoned, and Jesus is risen. 3 Stripped of the grave-clothes, the body now glorious, rises immortal, for ever victorious; come to fulfil all the prophets have spoken; promise of life that will never be broken. 4 Weeping is over, and death is defeated, life is recovered and joy is completed. Guards, at the sepulchre, scatter before him; Jesus is risen and angels adore him. 5 Highest, Most Holy, once lost and forsaken: now, from the sleep of the dead you awaken; angels appear at the tomb with the story: "He is not here, but is risen in glory." 6 Give God the glory and glad adoration, from whom and through whom and in whom, creation looks for the joy which, in Christ, we inherit: praising the Father, the Son and the Spirit! Topics: Easter (season); Ascension and Exaltation Used With Tune: O QUANTA QUALIA
