To Be More Like Jesus

Author: Rebecca Elaine Lee Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #8159 First Line: ’Tis only through suffering true life I may gain Refrain First Line: More like my Jesus, this is my goal Lyrics: 1 ’Tis only through suffering true life I may gain; We find richest joy through the deepest of pain… It’s not by our merit, but by His grace we grow To be more like Jesus and more of Him know. Refrain: More like my Jesus, this is my goal— May zeal for the Gospel e’er grip my soul. 2 It’s not through great riches I gain my reward Nor pleasing mere man for fear of the sword; Instead I must conquer by God’s power divine, And if I am faithful, Heav’n’s glories are mine. [Refrain] 3 Lord Jesus, I love Thee, Thou showest the way; Thou leadest from darkness to brightness of day! Oh, ne’er shall I leave Thee, for faithful Thou art! Thou art my true Conqueror, the Love of my heart! [Refrain] 4 Soon I shall be with Thee, my hand joined in Thine, My labors completed—Thy joy shall be mine; Then how can I serve Thee if I cannot die For my Savior’s sake until I have come nigh? My life I offer, Lamb that was slain! So I may gain Heaven through suffering and pain Languages: English Tune Title: ['Tis only through suffering true life I may gain]

God Loveth the Righteous

Author: Anonymous Hymnal: The Cyber Hymnal #1862 Meter: 11.11.11.11 First Line: God loveth the righteous, His goodness is sure Lyrics: 1. God loveth the righteous, His goodness is sure. He never forsaketh the good and the pure. Yet once my faith faltered, I envied the proud, In doubt and disquiet my spirit was bowed. 2. The wicked are prosperous and firm in their strength, No pangs do they suffer, though death come at length. They are not in trouble as other men are, The plagues of their fellows they view from afar. 3. In garments of boasting and violence decked, With wealth more abundant than heart could expect, They scoff, and the helpless they proudly oppress. The heavens and the earth they assume to possess. 4. Despising God’s people, they cause them to drain The cup of oppression, injustice and pain. They question God’s knowledge and boldly defy The might and the justice of God the Most High. 5. The wicked, grown wealthy, have comfort and peace, While I, daily chastened, see troubles increase, And, wronging God’s children, I cried in my pain, That clean hands are worthless and pure hearts are vain. 6. I went to God’s temple: my doubts were dispelled. The end of life’s journey I clearly beheld. I saw in what peril ungodly men stand, With sudden destruction and ruin at hand. 7. As when one waking forgetteth his dream, So God will despise them, though great they may seem. My envy was senseless; my grief was for naught. Because I was faithless, and foolish my thought. Languages: English Tune Title: SANKEY
