1799 - 1877 Person Name: A. R. Reinagle Composer of "ST. PETER" in The Church Hymnal Alexander Robert Reinagle United Kingdom 1799-1877. Born at Brighton, Sussex, England, gf Austrian descent, he came from a family of musicians, studying music with his father (a cellist), then with Raynor Taylor in Edinburgh, Scotland. Reinagle became a well-known organ teacher. He became organist at St Peter’s Church, Oxford (1823-1853). He was also a theatre musician. He wrote Teaching manuals for stringed instruments as well. He also compiled books of hymn tunes, one in 1830: “Psalm tunes for the voice and the pianoforte”, the other in 1840: “A collection of Psalm and hymn tunes”. He also composed waltzes. In 1846 he married Caroline Orger, a pianist, composer, and writer in her own right. No information found regarding children. In the 1860s he was active in Oxford music-making and worked with organist, John Stainer, then organist at Magdalen College. Reinagle also composed a piano sonata and some church music. At retirement he moved to Kidlington, Oxfordshire, England. He died at Kidlington.

1854 - 1954 Author (Chorus) of "Jerusalem, My Happy Home" in Sacred Chimes Adoniram Judson Buchanan was born on December 1854 in Linn County, Missouri. In 1867, shortly after the American civil war, he moved with his family to a community near Sherman in Grayson County, Texas, purchasing several acres of land and settling near the Elmont Community, a few miles west of Van Alstyne, Texas.

1747 - 1826 Author of "Jerusalem, My Happy Home" in Baptist Hymnal 1991 Bromehead, Joseph, M.A., was born in 1748 and educated at Queen's College, Oxford; B.A. 1768, M.A. 1771. Subsequently he was Curate of Eckington, Derbyshire, to his death, January 30, 1826. He was the author of The Melancholy Student, 2nd edition 1776, of some Psalm versions, and the popular form of “Jerusalem, my happy home," q.v.

Music director at Twelfth Congregational Church, Boston, Massachusetts, 1836-1957; Bowdoin Square Baptist Church, ca.1867-1870; Harvard Street Baptist Church, ca.1870-1875, and other Boston churches. Chorus director at Tremont Temple, 1857-1867. Author of popular songs, "Don't Give Up the Ship" and "The Mountaineer," and of thirteen church music books; published The Sacred Star hymnal, 1861, Boston. Wrote words of Easter hymn commencing, "Jesus Christ, our precious Savior," and hymn "Ever gracious, loving Savior, Come and bless us from on high."
