A Multitude Comes from the East and the West

Author: Magnus B. Landstad, 1802-1880; Peer O. Strömme, 1856-1961 Meter: 11.9.11.9 Appears in 16 hymnals Topics: Joy Lyrics: 1 A multitude comes from the east and the west To sit at the feast of salvation With Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the blest, Obeying the Lord's invitation. 2 O God, let us hear when our shepherd shall call In accents persuasive and tender, That while there is time we make haste, one and all, And find him, our mighty defender. 3 All trails shall be like a dream that is past, Forgotten all trouble and mourning. All questions and doubts have been answered at last, When rises the light of that morning. 4 The heavens shall ring with an anthem more grand Than ever on earth was recorded; The blest of the Lord shall receive at his hand The crown to the victors awarded. Scripture: Revelation 7:9 Used With Tune: CONSUMMATION

If I Could Visit Bethlehem

Author: Brian Wren Meter: 8.6.8.6 D Appears in 2 hymnals Topics: Joy; Joy Lyrics: 1 If I could visit Bethlehem what presents would I bring? If I could see what happened then, what would I say or sing? I wouldn't take a modern toy but gold to pay for bread, some wine to give his parents joy and wool to warm his bed. 2 I'd learn some simple words to speak in Aramaic tongues. I'd cradle him, and kiss his cheek, and say, "I'm glad you've come." If Mary asked me who I was and what her child would do, I wouldn't talk about the cross or tell he all I knew. 3 I'd say, "He'll never hurt or kill, and joy will follow tears. We'll know his name and love him still in twenty hundred years." I cannot visit Bethlehem but what I can, I'll do: I'll love you, Jesus, as my friend, and give my life to you. Scripture: Psalm 30:3 Used With Tune: CAROL STREAM
