Hark! the sound of holy voices

Author: Christopher Wordsworth Hymnal: Book of Worship with Hymns and Tunes #588 (1899) Lyrics: 1 Hark! the sound of holy voices, Chanting at the crystal sea, Hallelujah, hallelujah, Hallelujah, Lord, to Thee! Multitudes, which none can number, Like the stars in glory stand, Clothed in white apparel, holding Palms of victory in their hands. 2 They have come from tribulation, And have washed their robes in blood, Washed them in the blood of Jesus; Tried they were and firm they stood. Mocked, imprisoned, stoned, tormented, Sawn asunder, slain with sword, They have conquered death and Satan By the might of Christ the Lord. 3 Now they reign in heavenly glory, Now they walk in golden light, Now they drink, as from a river, Holy bliss and infinite; Love and peace they taste for ever, And all truth and knowledge see In the beatific vision Of the blessèd Trinity. Amen. Topics: White Robes Languages: English Tune Title: AUSTRIAN HYMN

Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken

Author: John Newton, 1725-1807 Hymnal: Worship and Rejoice #598 (2003) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Lyrics: 1 Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God; he whose Word cannot be broken formed you for his own abode. On the Rock of Ages founded, what can shake your sure repose? With salvation’s walls surrounded, you may smile at all your foes. 2 See, the streams of living waters, springing from eternal love, well supply your sons and daughters and all fear of want remove. Who can faint while such a river ever will their thirst assuage? Grace, which like the Lord, the giver, never fails from age to age. 3 Round each habitation hovering, see the cloud and fire appear, for a glory and a covering, showing that the Lord is near! Thus deriving from their banner light by night and shade by day, safe they feed upon the manna which God gives them on their way. 4 Savior, since of Zion's city I through grace a member am, let the world deride or pity, I will glory in your name. Fading are the world's best pleasures, all its bloated pomp and show; solid joys and lasting treasures none but Zion's children know. Scripture: Exodus 13:21-22 Languages: English Tune Title: AUSTRIAN HYMN
