1930 - 2016 Meter: 8.5.8.5 with refrain Translator of "Ele É o Meu Senhor" Joan Larie Sutton (nee Riffey) was born in Louisville, KY but lived most of her life in Brazil with her missionary parents. She began the study of violin at the age of ten, continuing her studies at Baylor University. She earned a Masters Degree in sacred music at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville. She married William Boyd Sutton and together they worked in Brazil. She translated many hymns into Portuguese. ================ JOAN SUTTON LARIE (Married to Pastor John Boyd Sutton) Brazilian Baptists owe much to this American musician who, after more than 30 years of fruitful work in Brazil (see: "Nassau", p.l66). was the catalyst for musical talent, natives and aliens in the preparation of "Hymns for Christian Worship," which contributed to the translations, which revealed hymns by contemporary authors. http://www.abordo.com.br/nassau/galeria.htm

Graham Kendrick

England, August 2, 1950), the son of a Baptist minister in Northamptonshire, is one of the most prolific Christian singer-songwriters in the United Kingdom. He’s written music for over thirty years, and to date has released thirty-eight albums. He is best known for his songs “Shine, Jesus, Shine,” “Knowing You,” and “The Servant King.” Kendrick has received honorary doctorates in divinity from Brunel University and Wycliffe College. In 1987 he helped co-found the March for Jesus, which today is a global phenomenon in which Christians take their faith to the streets in a celebration of Christ. In 1995 Kendrick received a Dove Award for his international work, and he remains an active advocate for Compassion International, which is a Christian child sponsorship organization dedicated to the long-term development of children living in poverty around the world, and also is a contributor to CompassionArt, an organization with the aim of generating income from works of art to assist in the relief of suffering around the planet. Joseph T. Jones

1902 - 1983 Meter: 8.5.8.5 with refrain Arranger of "HE IS KING" in The Presbyterian Hymnal Joseph T. Jones (1902-1983) was the son of Rev. A.A. and Mary M. Jones, both former slaves, who went on to being a school in McConnellsville, South Carolina. His father was pastor of the Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. Joseph, “Joe,” Jones entered Johnson C. Smith University (formerly Biddle University) and became heavily involved in music. After graduation (1927), a friend recommended him for a position as a Sunday school missionary, headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee. He traveled extensively in the South, organizing Sunday schools, sometimes in isolated places, and providing opportunities for religious growth to children and adults. In 1947, Jones was promoted to supervisor of Sunday school missionary work in the Southeast and moved to Charlotte, North Carolina. He graduated from Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary and was ordained in the Presbyterian Church in the U.S.A. Jones attended all General Assemblies of the church from 1927 until his retirement in 1973, except for one when Joe and Ione’s second child was born two weeks earlier than expected. Joe Jones frequently sang and led singing on his travels. He was urged to collect the spirituals he sand and did so in Great Day: Negro Spirituals as Sung and Directed by J. T. Jones (1961). Buried: Ce­men­te­rio Bri­tán­i­co, Bue­nos Air­es, Ar­gen­ti­na. Samuel’s par­ents were James Ab­bott Craver and Han­nah Porch Cra­ver. He and his wife Lau­ra El­len Gass­ner and had six child­ren. Craver was educated at Iowa College (AB, BD, DD, 1871); Boston Theological College (1875); and Iowa Wesleyan College (1887). In 1875, Craver be­came a Meth­od­ist Epis­co­pal mis­sion­a­ry in Mex­i­co, serv­ing there for 20 years. He was a charter member of the Methodist Mexico Conference, and founder of the Methodist Church at Guanajuato. He al­so worked in Par­a­guay. In 1895, Cra­ver was trans­ferred to South Amer­i­ca, serv­ing as a pas­tor, sev­er­al times dis­trict su­per­in­ten­dent, and pre­si­dent of the the­o­lo­gi­cal sem­in­a­ry in Bue­nos Air­es (1895-1919). --www.hymntime.com/tch/
