O God, Regard My Humble Plea

Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Appears in 13 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O God, regard my humble plea; I cannot be so far from Thee but Thou wilt hear my cry; when I by trouble am distressed, then lead me on the Rock to rest that higher is than I. 2 In Thee my soul hath shelter found, and Thou hast been from foes around the tow'r to which I flee. Within Thy house will I abide; my refuge sure, whate'er betide, Thy shelt'ring wings shall be. 3 For Thou, O God, my vows hast heard, on me the heritage conferred of those that fear Thy Name; a blest anointing Thou dost give, and Thou wilt make me ever live Thy praises to proclaim. 4 Before Thy face shall I abide; O God, Thy truth and grace provide to guard me in the way; so I will make Thy praises known, and, humbly blending at Thy throne, my vows will daily pay. O thou who dost to man accord

Author: Gregory I , 540-604; John William Hewitt, 1824-1886 Meter: 8.8.6.8.8.6 Appears in 11 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O thou who dost to man accord his highest prize, his best reward, thou hope of all our race; Jesu, to thee we now draw near, our earnest supplications hear, who humbly seek thy face. 2 With self-accusing voice within our conscience tells of many a sin in thought, and word, and deed: O cleanse that conscience from all stain, the penitent restore again, from every burthen freed. 3 If thou reject us, who shall give our fainting spirits strength to live? ’Tis thine alone to spare; with cleansèd hearts to pray aright, and find acceptance in thy sight, be this our lowly prayer. 4 ’Tis thou has blessed this solemn fast; so may its days by us be passed in self-control severe, that, when our Easter morn we hail, its mystic feast we may not fail to keep with conscience clear. 5 O blessèd Trinity, bestow thy pardoning grace on us below, and shield us evermore; until, within thy courts above, we see thy face, and sing thy love, and with thy saints adore. Upon the Cross Extended

Author: Paul Gerhardt, 1607-1676; John Kelly, 1833-1890 Meter: 7.7.6.7.7.8 Appears in 11 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Upon the cross extended, see, world, your Lord suspended; your Savior yields his breath. The Prince of life from heaven himself has freely given to shame and blows and bitter death. 2 Who is it, Lord, that bruised you? Who has so sore abused you and caused you all your woe? We all must make confession of sin and dire transgression while you no ways of evil know. 3 I caused your grief and sighing by evils multiplying as countless as the sands. I caused the woes unnumbered with which your soul is cumbered, your sorrows raised by wicked hands. 4 Your soul in griefs unbounded, your head with thorns surrounded, you died to ransom me. The cross for me enduring, the crown for me securing, you healed my wounds and set me free. 5 Your cross I place before me, its saving pow'r restore me, sustain me in the test. It will, when life is ending, be guiding and attending my way to your eternal rest. Topics: Jesus' Passion Scripture: Isaiah 53:4-9 Used With Tune: O WELT, ICH MUSS DICH LASSEN
