True Honour

Hymnal: Poems on Subjects Chiefly Devotional, Vol. 1 #90 (1760) Scripture: Daniel 12:3 First Line: There is a glorious world on high Lyrics: I. There is a glorious world on high, Resplendent with eternal day; Faith views the blissful prospect nigh, While God's own word reveals the way. II. There shall the fav'rites of the Lord With never-fading lustre shine; Surprizing honour! vast reward Conferr'd on man, by love divine! III. How blest are those, how truly wise, Who learn and keep the sacred road! Happy the men, whom heav'n employs To turn rebellious hearts to God! IV. To win them from the fatal way, Where erring folly thoughtlessly roves; And that blest righteousness display, Which Jesus wrought, and God approves. V. The shining firmament shall fade, And sparkling stars resign their light; But these shall know nor change, nor shade, Forever fair, forever bright. VI. No fancy'd joy beyond the sky, No fair delusion is reveal'd; 'Tis God that speaks, who cannot lie, And all his word must be fulfill'd. VII. And shall not these cold hearts of ours Be kindled at the glorious view? Come, Lord, awake our active pow'rs, Our feeble, dying strength renew. VIII. On wings of faith and strong desire, O may our spirits daily rise; And reach at last the shining choir, In the bright mansions of the skies. Languages: English

Jesus Christ, My Sure Defense

Author: Otto von Schwerin, 1616-1679; Catherine Winkworth, 1827-1878 Hymnal: Christian Worship #446 (2021) Meter: 7.8.7.8.7.7 Scripture: Daniel 12:2-3 Lyrics: 1 Jesus Christ, my sure defense and my Savior, now is living! Knowing this, my confidence rests upon the hope he's giving, though the night of death be fraught still with many an anxious thought. 2 Jesus, my Redeemer, lives; I, too, unto life shall waken. Endless joy my Savior gives; shall my courage then be shaken? Shall I fear, or could the head rise and leave his members dead? 3 No, too closely am I bound unto him by hope forever; faith's strong hand the rock has found, grasped it, and will leave it never. Even death now cannot part from its Lord the trusting heart. 4 I am flesh and must return unto dust, whence I am taken; but by faith I now discern that from death I shall awaken with my Savior to abide in his glory, at his side. 5 Glorified, I shall anew with this flesh then be enshrouded; in this body I shall view God, my Lord, with eyes unclouded; in this flesh I then shall see Jesus Christ eternally. O Thou Who Makest Souls to Shine

Author: John Armstrong Hymnal: The Hymnbook #305 (1955) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Scripture: Daniel 12:3 Lyrics: 1 O Thou who makest souls to shine With light from brighter worlds above, Now send Thy glistening dew divine On all who seek a Saviour's love. 2 Do Thou Thy benediction give On all who teach, on all who learn, That all Thy Church may holier live, And every lamp more brightly burn. 3 Give those that teach pure hearts and wise, Faith, hope, and love, all warmed by prayer; Themselves first training for the skies, They best will raise their people there. 4 O bless the shepherd, bless the sheep, That guide and guided both be one— One in the faithful watch they keep, Until this hurrying life be done. God, we praise you, God, we bless you!

Author: Christopher M. Idle, b. 1938 Hymnal: Common Praise #450 (2000) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Scripture: Daniel 12:2 Lyrics: 1 God, we praise you, God, we bless you! God, we name you sovereign Lord! Mighty King whom angels worship, Father, by your Church adored: all creation shows your glory, heaven and earth draw near your throne, singing 'Holy, holy, holy, Lord of hosts, and God alone!' 2 True apostles, faithful prophets, saints who set their world ablaze, martyrs, once unknown, unheeded, join one growing song of praise, while your church on earth confesses one majestic Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, God, our hope eternally. 3 Jesus Christ, the King of glory, everlasting Son of God, humble was your virgin mother, hard the lonely path you trod. By your cross is sin defeated, hell confronted face to face, heaven opened to believers, sinners justified by grace. 4 Christ, at God's right hand victorious, you will judge the world you made; Lord, in mercy help your servants for whose freedom you have paid. Raise us up from dust to glory, guard us from all sin today; King enthroned above all praises, save your people, God, we pray! Topics: Easter II Year C Languages: English Tune Title: REX GLORIÆ

I Know of a Sleep in Jesus' Name

Author: Magnus B. Landstad, 1802-1880 Hymnal: Christian Worship #846 (2021) Meter: 9.8.9.8.9.8 Scripture: Daniel 12:2-3 Lyrics: 1 I know of a sleep in Jesus' name, a rest from all toil and sorrow; earth folds in her arms my weary frame and shelters it till the morrow. My soul is at home with God in heav'n; my sorrows are past and over. 2 I know of a morning, bright and fair when tidings of joy shall wake us, when songs from on high shall fill the air and God to his glory take us, when Jesus shall bid us rise from sleep; how joyous that hour of waking! 3 God's Son to our graves then takes his way, his voice hear all tribes and nations. The trumpet of God will sound the day and shake all the earth's foundations. He calls out aloud: "O dead, come forth!" In glory we rise to meet him. 4 O Jesus, draw near my dying bed and take me into your keeping and say when my spirit hence is fled, "This child is not dead, but sleeping." And leave me not, Savior, till I rise to praise you in life eternal. Topics: Hope and Comfort Languages: English Tune Title: DEN SIGNEDE DAG
