I Will Extol You, God My King

Hymnal: Psalms and Hymns to the Living God #145 (2023) Meter: 8.8.8.8 Scripture: Psalm 145 Lyrics: 1 I will extol You, God my King; and I will ever praise Your name. I will exalt you every day and evermore Your praise proclaim. You, LORD, are greatly to be praised; Your greatness is beyond all thought. From age to age Your people tell the mighty wonders You have wrought. 2 On Your most glorious majesty and on Your deeds my mind will dwell. Your deeds will fill the world with awe, and all Your greatness I will tell. Your matchless goodness and Your grace Your people will commemorate; and all Your truth and righteousness our joyful song will celebrate. 3 The LORD our God is rich in grace, tender to us, compassionate. His anger is most slow to rise, His love and kindness are most great. The LORD is good in all His ways; His creatures know His constant care. To all His works His love extends; all creatures in His mercies share. 4 All You have made will praise You, LORD; Your mighty acts Your saints will show, till all the peoples on the earth the splendor of Your kingdom know. Eternal is Your kingdom, LORD, forever strong, forever sure. While generations rise and die, Your glorious reign will still endure. 5 The LORD is faithful to His word; He will extend His gracious hand. The LORD upholds the falt'ring feet and makes the weak securely stand. The eyes of all look up to You for food and drink, which You supply; Your open hand is bountiful, and every need You satisfy. 6 The LORD is just in all His ways; in all His works He is most kind, and all who call on Him in truth in Him a present helper find. He will fulfill the heart's desire of those who fear Him and obey. The LORD will surely hear their cry, will save them when to Him they pray. 7 The LORD in grace preserves His saints, redeeming those who love His name. The wicked He will overthrow and put His enemies to shame. My mouth will sing the glorious praise of God, whom earth and heav'n adore. Let every creature praise His name forever and forevermore! My God, My King

Author: Anne Steele, 1717-1778 Hymnal: Psalms of Grace #145c (2022) Scripture: Psalm 145 First Line: My God, my king, to Thee I'll raise Lyrics: 1 My God, my king, to Thee I'll raise My voice, and all my powers; Unwearied songs of sacred praise Shall fill the circling hours. 2 Thy name shall dwell upon my tongue, While suns shall set and rise, And tune my everlasting song, When all creation dies. 3 Great is the LORD! our souls adore, We wonder whilst we praise! His power what creature can explore, Or equal honors raise? 4 Yet shall Thy works, almighty LORD, Our noblest songs adorn; Thy glorious acts we will record, For ages yet unborn. 5 Thy praise shall be my awful theme, The wonders of Thy power; I'll speak the honors of Thy name, And bid the world adore. 6 But sweetly flowing strains shall tell The riches of Thy grace; And songs of grateful joy reveal Thy spotless righteousness. 7 How full the LORD's compassions flow! His wrath, how slow to rise! Swift pardon smiles upon his brow, And every terror dies. 8 How large his tender mercies are! How wide his power extends! On his beneficence and care The universe depends. 9 Thy power and grandeur they shall sing, The glories of thy reign; Thy wondrous deeds, Almighty King, Shall fill the raptur'd strain. 10 Thy kingdom, LORD, forever stands, While earthly thrones decay; And time submits to Thy commands, While ages roll away.
