The Bible Stands

Author: Haldor Lillenas Appears in 15 hymnals Scripture: 1 Peter 1:23 First Line: The Bible stands like a rock undaunted Refrain First Line: The Bible stands tho' the hills may tumble Lyrics: 1 The Bible stands like a rock undaunted 'Mid the raging storms of time; Its pages burn with the truth eternal, And they glow with a light sublime. Chorus: The Bible stands tho' the hills may tumble, It will firmly stand when the earth shall crumble; I will plant my feet on its firm foundation, For the Bible stands, The Bible stands. 2 The Bible stands like a mountain tow'ring Far above the works of man; Its truth by none ever was refuted, And destroy it they never can. (Chorus) 3 The Bible stands and it will forever, When the world has passed away; By inspiration it has been given, All its precepts I will obey. (Chorus) 4 The Bible stands every test we give it, For its Author is divine; By grace alone I will expect to live it, And to prove it and make it mine. (Chorus) Used With Tune: [The Bible stands like a rock undaunted]

Earth has no pleasure I would share, Yea, heav'n itself were void and bare If Thou, Lord, wert not near me. And should my heart for sorrow break, My trust in Thee can nothing shake. Thou art the portion I have sought; Thy precious blood my soul has bought. Lord Jesus Christ, My God and Lord, my God and Lord, Forsake me not! I trust Thy Word. 2 Yea, Lord, 'twas Thy rich bounty gave My body, soul, and all I have In this poor life of labor. Lord, grant that I in ev'ry place May glorify Thy lavish grace And help and serve my neighbor. Let no false doctrine me beguile; And Satan not my soul defile. Give strength and patience unto me To bear my cross and follow Thee. Lord Jesus Christ, My God and Lord, my God and Lord, In death Thy comfort still afford. 3 Lord, let at last Thine angels come, To Abram's bosom bear me home, That I may die unfearing; And in its narrow chamber keep My body safe in peaceful sleep Until Thy reappearing. And then from death awaken me, That these mine eyes with joy may see, O Son of God, Thy glorious face, My Savior and my fount of grace. Lord Jesus Christ, my prayer attend, my prayer attend, And I will praise Thee without end. Topics: Ordination, Installation Used With Tune: HERZLICH LIEB

Sing, my tongue, how glorious battle

Author: Venantius Honorius Clementianus Fortunatus (c. 535-609); John Mason Neale (1818-1866); William Mair (1830-1920); Arthur Wellesley Wotherspoon (1853-1936) Meter: 8.7.8.7.8.7 Appears in 6 hymnals Scripture: 1 Peter 1:19 Lyrics: 1 Sing, my tongue, how glorious battle glorious victory became; and above the cross, his trophy, tell the triumph and the fame: tell how he, the earth's Redeemer, by his death for all o'ercame. 2 When the thirty years were ended, humbly lived for all to see, willingly he met his passion, born to set his people free: on the cross the Lamb is lifted, there the sacrifice to be. 3 His the nails, the spear, the spitting, reed and vinegar and gall; from his patient body piercèd blood and water streaming fall: earth and sea and stars and mankind by that stream are cleansèd all. 4 Faithful cross, above all other, one and only noble tree, none in foliage, none in blossom, none in fruit your match can be: focus of the world's redemption, your dear burden makes us free. 5 Praise and honour to the Father, praise and honour to the Son, praise and honour to the Spirit, ever Three and ever One, one in might, and one in glory, while eternal ages run. All is ready for the Feast!

Author: Frederick Pratt Green (1903-2000) Meter: 7.7.7 Appears in 2 hymnals Scripture: 1 Peter 1:18-19 Lyrics: 1 All is ready for the Feast! Every Jew is wondering how God will liberate them now. 2 Pilate, fearful of revolt he, at all costs, must avert, puts the Legion on alert. 3 Listen! Galilean crowds hail the Man from Nazareth, Jesus, riding to his death. 4 What authority he wields! With a whip of cords he clears temple courts of profiteers! 5 Watched by priests and pharisees, all he says and all he does fans the hatred of his foes. 6 Now he gathers those he loves in a room where bread and wine turn to sacrament and sign. 7 In that dark betrayal night, moved by hope, or fear or greed, Judas sets about his deed. 8 Jesus in the olive grove, waiting for a traitor's kiss, rises free from bitterness. 9 As he wakes his comrades up torches flicker in the glen, shadows turn to marching men. 10 In that dawn of blows and lies Church and State conspire to kill, hang three rebels on a hill. 11 Innocent and guilty drown in a flood of blood and sweat, how much darker can it get? 12 How much darker must it be for a God to see and care that men perish in despair? 13 It is God himself who dies! God in man shall set us free, God as Man - and only he. 14 Let him claim us as his own, we will serve as best we can such a God and such a Man! Final verse: 15 What does our salvation cost? Jesus, we shall never know all you gave and all we owe. Topics: Christ Incarnate Passion and Death; Christian Year Holy Week Used With Tune: HEILIGER GEIST
