My Own America

Author: James Rowe Hymnal: Sunday School Voices #153 (1910) Topics: Patriotic First Line: O blest and happy land of mine Refrain First Line: Dear country of the free Lyrics: 1 O blest and happy land of mine! I sing in praise of thee; For ev’ry vale and plain of thine Is more than all the world to me. I love thy quiet woods and dells, Each winding stream and way; With praise for thee my bosom swells, My own America. Refrain: Dear country of the free, Thy name exalted be; I glory in thy matchless strength, I pledge my heart to thee. America, Columbia, Dear homeland of the free, I glory in thy matchless strength, I pledge my heart to thee. 2 Our faithful fathers battled well For home and liberty, As in the face of shot and shell They shed their precious blood for thee. And if again thy voice should call Thy children to the fray, As many more would fight and fall For thee, America. [Refrain] 3 O may thy greatness still increase, Still more thy glory shine Upon the snowy wings of peace, Thou well-beloved land of mine! And may our fathers’ God still be Their children’s hope and stay; This, this for thee, my prayer and plea, My own America. [Refrain] Languages: English Tune Title: [O blest and happy land of mine]

Song To the Flag.

Author: Edith Sanford Tillotson Hymnal: Victory Songs #183 (1920) Topics: Patriotic First Line: Banner bright, with thy colors shining o'er us Refrain First Line: Heart and hand we'll pledge to starry banner Lyrics: 1 Banner bright, with thy colors shining o’er us, Dear bright flag and the emblem of the free; Hearts beat high when we see thee wave above us, Freedom’s sign art thou over land, over sea: Choice: Heart and hand we’ll pledge to starry banner Staunch and strong we’ll stand to colors true! Day by day we’ll serve with best endeavor, Life’s allegiance give to the red, white and blue. 2 Crimson bars, you can speak to us of courage; Snowy white, give us peaceful hearts and pure; Loyal blue, may our lives in truth be grounded, So we’ll wear our colors while time shall endure: [Choice] 3 Star-gemmed flag, may thy children long remember What great price has been paid thy folds to raise; May we live to be worthy of thy keeping, May we show thee honor, devotion and praise. [Choice] Three cheers for the red, white and blue! Three cheers for the red, white and blue! The army and navy forever, Three cheers for the red, white and blue! The Star-Spangled Banner.

Hymnal: Victory Songs #189 (1920) Topics: Patriotic First Line: Oh, say, can you see by the dawn's early light Lyrics: 1 Oh, say, can you see by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming? Whose broad stripes and bright stars, thro' the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming? And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof thro' the night that our flag was still there. Oh, say, does that star-spangled banner yet wave O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave? 2 On the shore, dimly seen thro' the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected, now shines on the stream. 'Tis the star-spangled banner; Oh long may it wave O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave. 3 And where is that band, who so vauntingly swore, That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion, A home and a country should leave us no more? Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution; No refuge could save the hireling and slave From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave. And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave O'er the land of the free, and the home of the brave. 4 O thus be it ever when freemen shall stand Between their loved homes and the war's desolation; Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the heav'n-rescued land Praise the Pow'r that hath made and preserved us a nation. Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto: "In God is our trust!" And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave. Languages: English Tune Title: [Oh, say, can you see by the dawn's early light]
