Let them neglect thy glory, Lord

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 58 hymnals Topics: Comfort and support in God; Counsel and support from God; Support and counsel from God Lyrics: Let them neglect thy glory, Lord, Who never knew thy grace; But our loud songs shall still record The wonders of thy praise. We raise our shouts, O God, to thee, And send them to thy throne; All glory to th' united Three, The undivided One. 'Twas he (and we'll adore his name) That formed us by a word; 'Tis he restores our ruined frame: Salvation to the Lord! Hosannah! let the earth and skies Repeat the joyful sound Rocks, hills, and vales, reflect the voice In one eternal round. Scripture: Psalm 16

Now let the Lord my Saviour smile

Appears in 21 hymnals Topics: Support and Comfort under Afflictions Lyrics: 1 Now let the Lord my Saviour smile, And shew my Name upon his Heart; I would forget my Pains a while, And in the Pleasure lose the Smart. 2 But, oh! it swells my Sorrows high To see my blessed Jesus frown; My Spirits sink, my Comforts die, And all the Springs of Love are down. 3 Yet why, my Soul, why these Complaints? Still while he frowns his Bowels move; Still on his Heart he bears his Saints, And feels their Sorrows and his Love. 4 My Name is printed on his Breast; His Book of Life contains my Name; I'd rather have it there imprest, Than in the bright Records of Fame. 5 When the last Fire burns all Things here, Those Letters shall securely stand, And in the Lamb's fair Book appear, Writ by th' Eternal Father's Hand. 6 Now shall my Minutes smoothly run, Whilst here I wait my Father's Will; My rising and my setting Sun Roll gently up and down the Hill.

Whence do our mournful thoughts arise?

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 75 hymnals Topics: Comfort and support in God; Counsel and support from God; Support and counsel from God Lyrics: Whence do our mournful thoughts arise? And where's our courage fled? Have restless sin and raging hell Struck all our comforts dead? Have we forgot th' almighty name That formed the earth and sea? And can an all-creating arm Grow weary or decay? Treasures of everlasting might In our Jehovah dwell; He gives the conquest to the weak And treads their foes to hell. Mere mortal power shall fade and die, And youthful vigor cease: But we that wait upon the Lord Shall feel our strength increase. The saints shall mount on eagles' wings, And taste the promised bliss, Till their unwearied feet arrive Where perfect pleasure is. Scripture: Isaiah 40:27-30

There is a land of pure delight

Appears in 1,444 hymnals Topics: Life, Death and a future State The Prospect of Heaven a Support in Death Lyrics: 1 There is a Land of pure delight, Where saints immortal reign; Infinite day excludes the night, And pleasures banish pain. 2 There everlasting spring abides, And never-fading flowers; Death, like a narrow Sea, divides This heavenly land from ours. 3 Sweet fields, beyond the swelling flood, Stand dress'd in living green; So to the Jews old Canaan stood, While Jordan roll'd between. 4 But fearful mortals start, and shrink, To cross the narrow sea; And linger, shiv'ring, on the brink, And fear to launch away. 5 Oh! could we make our doubts remove, Those gloomy doubts that rise, And see the Canaan that we love, With unbeclouded eyes; 6 Could we but climb where Moses stood, And view the landscape o'er — Not Jordan's streams, nor death's cold flood, Should fright us from the shore.

Let every mortal ear attend

Author: Isaac Watts Meter: 8.6.8.6 Appears in 486 hymnals Topics: Temptations support under them Lyrics: Let every mortal ear attend, And every heart rejoice; The trumpet of the gospel sounds With an inviting voice. Lo! all ye hungry, starving souls. That feed upon the wind, And vainly strive with earthly toys To fill an empty mind. Eternal Wisdom has prepared A soul-reviving feast, And bids your longing appetites The rich provision taste. Ho! ye that pant for living streams, And pine away and die, here you may quench your raging thirst With springs that never dry. Rivers of love and mercy here In a rich ocean join; Salvation in abundance flows, Like floods of milk and wine. [Ye perishing and naked poor, Who work with mighty pain To weave a garment of your own That will not hide your sin, Come naked, and adorn your souls In robes prepared by God, Wrought by the labors of his Son, And dyed in his own blood.] Dear God! the treasures of thy love Are everlasting mines, Deep as our helpless miseries are, And boundless as our sins. The happy gates of gospel grace Stand open night and day; Lord, we are come to seek supplies, And drive our wants away. Scripture: Isaiah 55:1-2
