Glorious Things Of Thee Are Spoken

Author: John Newton Hymnal: Hymnal for Church and Home #141 (1927) Lyrics: 1 Glorious things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God; He whose word cannot be broken, Form'd thee for His own abode; On the Rock of Ages founded, What can shake thy sure repose? With salvation's walls surrounded, Thou may'st smile at all thy foes. 2 See, the streams of living waters Springing from eternal love, Well supply thy sons and daughters, And all fear of want remove. Who can faint, while such a river Ever flows their thirst assuage. Grace which, like the Lord, the Giver, Never fails from age to age. 3 Round each habitation hov'ring, See the cloud and fire appear For a glory and a cov'ring, Showing that the Lord is near; Thus they march, the pillar leading, Light by night and shade by day; Daily on the manna feeding Which He gives them when they pray. 4 Savior, if of Zion's city I, thro' grace, a member am, Let the world deride or pity, I will glory in Thy name. Fading is the worldling's pleasure, All his boasted pomp and show; Solid joys and lasting treasure None but Zion's children know. God, Who Stretched the Spangled Heavens

Author: Catherine Cameron Hymnal: The United Methodist Hymnal #150b (1989) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Lyrics: 1 God, who stretched the spangled heavens, infinite in time and place, flung the suns in burning radiance through the silent fields of space, we your children, in your likeness, share inventive powers with you. Great Creator, still creating, show us what we yet may do. 2 Proudly rise our modern cities, stately buildings, row on row; yet their windows, blank, unfeeling, stare on canyoned streets below, where the lonely drift unnoticed in the city's ebb and flow, lost to purpose and to meaning, scarcely caring where they go. 3 We have ventured worlds undreamed of since the childhood of our race; known the ecstasy of winging through untraveled realms of space; probed the secrets of the atom, yielding unimagined power, facing us with life’s destruction or our most triumphant hour. 4 As each far horizon beckons, may it challenge us anew, children of creative purpose, serving others, honoring you. May our dreams prove rich with promise, each endeavor well begun. Great Creator, give us guidance till our goals and yours are one. Languages: English Tune Title: AUSTRIA
