George Lockwood

b. 1946 Person Name: George Lockwood, b. 1946 Translator (Spanish) of "Again We Keep This Solemn Fast (Hagan Ayuno y Oración)" in Oramos Cantando = We Pray In Song Rev. George Lockwood was born in 1946 and has been a missionary to Costa Rica. He has pastored Spanish-speaking congregations in both Arizona and California and served on the editorial committee for the Methodist hymnal supplement Celebremos II. In addition, Lockwood has traveled throughout Central and South America interviewing church musicians and gathering new hymns from both Spanish and Portuguese cultures which he then presents at conferences and workshops. 1841 - 1931 Person Name: Emanuel Cronenwett, 1841-1931 Translator (English) of "Lord God, to You We Give All Praise" in Christian Worship Cronenwett, Emmanuel, a Lutheran Pastor at Butler, Pennsylvania, U.S.A., contributed to the Evangelical Lutheran Hymnal, Published by Order of the Evangelical Lutheran Joint Synod of Ohio and other States, 1880, in addition to 20 translations from the German, the following original hymns, some of which rank with the best in the collection:— 1. Georg Werner

1589 - 1643 Person Name: George Werner Author of "Lord Jesus, who, our souls to save" in Church Book Werner, Georg, born March 22, 1589, at Preussisch-Holland, near Elbing, Prussia. In 1614 he became a master in the Löbenicht school at Königsberg, and in 1616 rector of the school at Preussisch-Holland. He was then appointed, in 1621, diaconus of the Löbenicht church at Königsberg. He died at Königsberg, July 15, 1643 (Koch, iii., 206, v. 659; Goedeke's Grundriss, vol. iii., 1887, p. 134, &c). He edited the Königsberg Gesang-Buch of 1643 (earliest copy now extant has title dated 1650, and preface dated 1643), to which he contributed a number of hymns. He also contributed to B. Derschau's Gesang-Buch, 1639 (p. 1248, ii.). His Psalm versions are noted under Psalters, German. The only hymn by him which has passed into English is a translation from the Latin, and is noted at p. 1187, i. [Rev. James Mearns] --John Julian, Dictionary of Hymnology, Appendix, Part II (1907)

Richard Massie

1800 - 1887 Translator of "Lord, by Thy Word deliv'rance work" in Evangelical Lutheran hymnal Massie, Richard, eldest son of the Rev. R. Massie, of Goddington, Cheshire, and Rector of Eccleston, was born at Chester, June 18, 1800, and resides at Pulford Hall, Coddington. Mr. Massie published a translation of Martin Luther’s Spiritual Songs, London, 1854. His Lyra Domestica, 1st series, London, 1860, contains translations of the 1st Series of Spitta's Psalter und Harfe. In 1864 he published vol. ii., containing translations of Spitta's 2nd Series, together with an Appendix of translations of German hymns by various authors. He also contributed many translations of German hymns to Mercer's Church Psalter & Hymn Book; to Reid's British Herald; to the Day of Rest, &c. J. Armitage Robinson

1858 - 1933 Person Name: Joseph A. Robinson Author of "¡Qué bueno, oh Cristo, es estar aquí!" in El Himnario Robinson, Joseph Armitage, D.D., Dean of Westminster since 1902, of Christ College, Camb. (B.A. 1881, M.A. 1884, D.D. 1896), sometime Fellow of his College, Norrisian Prof, of Div., Camb., Rector of St. Marg., Westminster, and Canon of Westminster, &c.,is only slightly associated with hymnology. His hymn, "'Tis good, Lord, to be here" (Transfiguration), was written c. 1890.
