At Calvary

Author: William R. Newell, 1868-1956 Meter: 9.9.13 with refrain Appears in 197 hymnals Topics: Grace, Mercy, and Forgiveness First Line: Years I spent in vanity and pride Refrain First Line: Mercy there was great and grace was free Lyrics: 1 Years I spent in vanity and pride, Caring not my Lord was crucified, Knowing not it was for me He died on Calvary. Refrain: Mercy there was great and grace was free, Pardon there was multiplied to me, There my burdened soul found liberty– At Calvary. 2 By God's Word at last my sin I learned– Then I trembled at the Law I'd spurned, Till my guilty soul imploring turned to Calvary. [Refrain] 3 Now I've giv'n to Jesus ev'rything, Now I gladly own Him as my King, Now my raptured soul can only sing of Calvary. [Refrain] 4 O the love that drew salvation's plan! O the grace that brought it down to man! O the mighty gulf that God did span at Calvary. [Refrain] Scripture: Luke 23:33 Used With Tune: AT CALVARY

All the Colors of the Rainbow

Author: Carl P. Daw, Jr. Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Appears in 1 hymnal Topics: Forgiveness Lyrics: 1 All the colors of the rainbow live unseen in daily light, but their splendors find expression when released to human sight; so the church reveals most beauty where diversity is real: breadth of race and class and gender, room for doubt, and space to heal. 2 All the body's parts are wanted, nor can one despise the rest: head and hand must work together, as must eye, ear, throat, and chest; so the church needs all its members for a range of ministries: varied gifts with one great mission, "Do this for the least of these." 3 Every language gains more music when the words for peace appear: Pax, Salaam, Eir¡ni, Heiwa, Pace, Santi, Frieden, Mir. Though our tongues make sounds that vary all bespeak a common home: longing for the end of conflict and new life in God's Shalom. 4 Teach us, God, our need of others; through them help us fully live. Wean us from our selfish habits; let us listen, learn, forgive. May we see your longed-for image in each human heart and face, and behold how those around us can be channels of your grace. Scripture: Genesis 1:26-27

Here, O My Lord, I See You Face to Face

Author: Horatius Bonar Meter: 10.10.10.10 Appears in 336 hymnals Topics: Forgiveness of Sin Lyrics: 1 Here, O my Lord, I see you face to face; here would I touch and handle things unseen; Here grasp with firmer hand the eternal grace, And all my weariness upon you lean. 2 Here would I feed upon the bread of God, here share the cup, the gracious gift of heaven; Here would I lay aside each earthly load, here taste afresh the calm of sin forgiven. 3 This is the hour of banquet and of song; this is the heavenly table spread anew; Here let me feast, and, feasting, still prolong the brief, bright hour together here with you. 4 Too soon we rise; the symbols disappear; the meal, but not your love, is past and gone. This joyful feast confirms that you are here, now and forever, as our shield and sun. 5 We have no help but yours, nor do we need another strength than yours to lean upon. It is enough, O Lord, enough indeed; our faith is in your might, your might alone. Used With Tune: MORECAMBE
