When Jesus Led His Chosen Three

Author: Christopher Idle Hymnal: Hymns and Devotions for Daily Worship #79 (2024) Meter: 8.8.8.8.8.8 Topics: Epiphany Transfiguration Lyrics: 1. When Jesus led his chosen three To lift the shadow from their sight, And on the mountain let them see His face transfigured, crowned with light: What grace that day to them was given! To men on Earth, a glimpse of Heav'n. 2. There Moses and Elijah stood And spoke about his exodus, Their freedom purchased by his blood, A passover most marvellous! The law and prophets meet their Lord, See God revealed, and man restored. 3. Then from the cloud there came a voice, "This is my own belovèd Son"; The Scriptures' theme, the Father's choice, Their master stood supreme, alone: They saw his glory, and they heard The one eternal, living Word. 4. So may we see and know this grace: The truth, which like a burning light Illuminates the darkest place Till Christ himself shall end the night: When to his people's longing eyes God's day shall dawn, his sun shall rise. Scripture: 2 Peter 1:16-18 Languages: English Tune Title: STELLA

Lord, it is good for us to be

Author: A. P. Stanley Hymnal: The Church Hymnal #162 (1920) Topics: Holy Days The Transfiguration Lyrics: 1 Lord, it is good for us to be High on the mountain here with Thee; Where stand revealed to mortal gaze Those glorious saints of other days; Who once received on Horeb's height The eternal laws of truth and right; Or caught the still small whisper, higher Than storm, than earthquake, or than fire. 2 Lord, it is good for us to be Entranced, enwrapt, alone with Thee; And watch Thy glistering raiment glow Whiter than Hermon's whitest snow, The human lineaments that shine Irradiant with a light divine: Till we too change from grace to grace, Gazing on that transfigured Face. 3 Lord, it is good for us to be Here on the holy mount with Thee; When darkling in the depths of night, When dazzled with excess of light, We bow before the heavenly voice That bids bewildered souls rejoice, Though love wax cold, and faith be dim, "This is my Son; O hear ye Him!" We Have Come at Christ's Own Bidding

Author: Carl P. Daw Hymnal: Celebrating Grace Hymnal #162 (2010) Meter: 8.7.8.7 D Topics: Jesus Christ-Transfiguration Lyrics: 1 We have come at Christ’s own bidding to this high and holy place, where we wait with hope and longing for some token of God’s grace. Here we pray for new assurance that our faith is not in vain, searching like those first disciples for a sign both clear and plain. 2 Light breaks through our clouds and shadows, splendor bathes the flesh-joined Word, Moses and Elijah marvel as the heavenly voice is heard. Eyes and hearts behold with wonder how the Law and Prophets meet: Christ, with garments drenched in brightness, stands transfigured and complete. 3 Strengthened by this glimpse of glory, fearful lest our faith decline, we, like Peter, find it tempting to remain and build a shrine. But true worship gives us courage to proclaim what we profess, that our daily lives may prove us people of the God we bless. Scripture: Matthew 17:1-4 Languages: English Tune Title: WHISENHUNT
