Help Us Accept Each Other

Author: Fred Kaan, b. 1929 Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 24 hymnals Lyrics: 1 Help us accept each other As Christ accepted us; Teach us as sister, brother, Each person to embrace. Be present, Lord, among us, And bring us to believe We are ourselves accepted And meant to love and live. 2 Teach us, O Lord, your lessons, As in our daily life We struggle to be human And search for hope and faith. Teach us to care for people, For all, not just for some; To love them as we find them, Or, as they may become. 3 Let your acceptance change us, So that we may be moved In living situations To do the truth in love; To practice your acceptance, Until we know by heart The table of forgiveness And laughter's healing art. 4 Lord, for today's encounters With all who are in need, Who hunger for acceptance, For righteousness and bread, We need new eyes for seeing, New hands for holding on; Renew us with your Spirit; Lord, free us, make us one! When Mary Poured a Rich Perfume

Author: Carolyn Winfrey Gillette Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 4 hymnals First Line: When Mary poured a rich perfume ;on Jesus' weary feet Lyrics: When Mary poured a rich perfume on Jesus’ weary feet, Her caring filled that humble room; the fragrance there was sweet. But full of anger, Judas said, “We could have used this more! Why was her gift not sold instead, and given to the poor?” The Lord replied, “Leave her alone! She bought it for this day. This caring love that she has shown is faithful to God’s way. The poor will always be with you, but you will not have me.” He blessed her and he thanked her, too, for giving lavishly. O Christ, what can your people bring to show you thanks and love? You need no fragrant offering; for now you reign above. Since there will never cease to be the poor throughout the land, May we, your church, serve faithfully by offering them our hand. Topics: Jesus Christ Ministry; Justice Scripture: Deuteronomy 15:11 Used With Tune: ELLACOMBE

O Church of God, United

Author: Frederick B. Morley Meter: 7.6.7.6 D Appears in 7 hymnals Lyrics: 1 O church of God, united to serve one common Lord, proclaim to all one message, with hearts in glad accord. Christ ever goes before us; we follow day by day with strong and eager footsteps along the upward way. 2 From every land and nation the ordered ranks appear; to serve one valiant leader they come from far and near. They chant their one confession, they praise one living Lord, and place their sure dependence upon his saving word. 3 Though creeds and tongues may differ, they speak, O Christ, of thee; and in thy loving spirit we shall one people be. Lord, may our faithful service and singleness of aim proclaim to all the power of thy redeeming name. 4 May thy great prayer be answered that we may all be one, close bound, by love united in thee, God's blessed Son: to bring a single witness, to make the pathway bright, that souls which grope in darkness may find the one true light. Topics: The Nature of the Church United in Christ; Church Community in Christ; Jesus Christ Example; Mission and Outreach; Testimony and Witness Scripture: Acts 2:5-11 Used With Tune: ELLACOMBE
